AMERICAN INDIAN COLLEGE FUND
The American Indian College Fund (AICF) awards several designated scholarships each year. There is one application for all the scholarships and the deadline date is June 30. Applications are available online.
- Cartwright Scholarship Program
The Cartwright program will award need-based scholarships of $2,000 annually to outstanding American Indian males. This program was developed to encourage men to continue their education by attending a tribal college.
- Coca-Cola Scholarship
The Coca-Cola Foundation will award $5,000 scholarships to American Indian students currently enrolled as freshmen and who are the first in their immediate family to pursue a higher education at a tribal college or university.
- Ford Motor Company Tribal Scholarship
Ford Motor Company will award up to $5,000 annually, based on financial need. The scholarship is for students studying math, science, engineering, business, teacher training or environmental science.
- Morgan Stanley Tribal Scholars Program
Morgan Stanley will award scholarships of $2,500 annually to outstanding American Indian students currently enrolled at a tribal college or university who have an interest in business and the financial services industry.
- Nissan North America Scholarship
Nissan North America, Inc. will award scholarships to outstanding American Indian sophomore students currently enrolled in tribal colleges and universities, who are planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree upon completion of an associate’s degree. Selected students will receive $2,000 annually.
- Time Warner Tribal Scholars Program
Time Warner will award scholarships of $2,500 annually to outstanding American Indian students attending a tribal college or university.
AMERICAN INDIAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
The applicant must be Native American or Alaskan Native descent; full-time student; attending an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university or a vocational technical school. Three types of scholarships are available: freshman scholarships, undergraduate scholarships, and continuing student scholarships. Deadline date is June 1. Amount of scholarships range from $1,500 to $3,000. AMERICAN INDIAN FELLOWSHIP IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP
Each year, the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development awards five scholarships to American Indian college or graduate students majoring in business. Eligible students must be enrolled full-time and be at the junior, senior, or graduate level. Applicants must submit an application as well as a statement requesting consideration and stating their reasons for pursuing higher education, their plans following completion of their degree and any other relevant information such as activities and commitment to the community. Submitted applications must include separate essays that specifically address Community Involvement, Personal Challenges and Business Experience criteria to earn maximum points. Applicants are judged primarily on achievement and commitment to the community. The application is available online and deadline date is early August.
Scholarship recipients are required to attend the Indian Progress in Business Awards Banquet (INPRO) in September. Airfare and lodging to attend INPRO are provided to recipients in addition to the scholarship from The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAIED).
AMERICAN INDIAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND ASSOCIATION

AMERICAN INDIAN SCIENCE & ENGINEERING SOCIETY (AISES)
The AISES mission is “To substantially increase the representation of American Indian and Alaskan Natives in engineering, science, and other related technology disciplines.” Applications can be obtained online.
- Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship is available to five new American Indian high school seniors every year, who reside in states serviced by the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Pacific Corporation and its affiliated companies: Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota and Washington. The award is for four academic years (eight semesters) or until baccalaureate degree is obtained (whichever occurs first). Applicants who are not selected as recipients will be given consideration in the A.T. Anderson Memorial Scholarship Program, if all criteria are met. Eligible majors include business, engineering, math, medicine/health administration, natural or physical sciences, technology, and education. Deadline to apply is April 15.
- A.T. Anderson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to members of AISES who are American Indian/Alaskan Native college students pursuing academic programs in the sciences, engineering, medical, natural resources, and math. Deadline to apply is June 15.
AMERICAN INDIAN SERVICES SCHOLARSHIP (AIS)
AIS of Utah has funds available to assist Native American students. Students may request an application in writing to AIS, 950 N. University Ave, Provo, Utah 84604. Deadline dates to apply are: Feb 15 for classes starting in April or May; May 15 for classes starting in June; August 15 for classes starting in August or September; December 15 for classes starting in January. Applications are online.
ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN INDIAN AFFAIRS (AAIA)
The AAIA has several scholarships available as described below. The various scholarships are based on financial need and merit. Grants are paid directly to accredited educational institutions. The monies can be used for tuition, books and other academic-related expenses. Students are chosen on the basis of their application, an essay, transcripts and two letters of recommendation as well as proof of Native American heritage. The blood quantum requirement is a condition set down by the donor of this scholarship. Applications may be downloaded at their Web site. Applications are accepted from mid-April to mid-July. Check the Web site for specific criteria and dates.
- Allogan Slagle Memorial Scholarship. The Allogan Slagle Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $1,500 are available to undergraduate students who are members of State Recognized tribes that are not federally recognized.
- Adolph Van Pelt Scholarship. This scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students in amounts ranging from $500 to $800. A grant is renewable for up to four years of support towards any one degree. Each year the grant is renewed, $100 is added to the student's scholarship.
- Displaced Homemaker Scholarship. This scholarship ($1,500) is based on financial need. It is designed to assist Native American students with childcare, transportation, and some basic living expenses.
- Elizabeth and Sherman Asche Memorial Scholarship. This $3,000 scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a major in Public Health.
- David Risling Emergency Aid Scholarship. This scholarship is available in amounts usually ranging from $50 to $400 during the academic school year. The program is for full-time undergraduate students only; is based on financial need; and is limited by the availability of scholarship funds. Students may only receive one scholarship per academic year. Applicants must have a critical/sudden need due to a change in circumstances (death in family, medical emergency, car emergency, loss of job, etc.) – a need that wasn’t expected or would prevent the student from attending school. There are no deadlines for applying.
- Emilie Hesemeyer Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is for full-time students with preference to students majoring in education. The scholarship amount is $1,500 and may be
renewed up to four years based on academic grades.
CATCHING THE DREAM
Catching the Dream provides financial assistance for American Indians in fields that are critical for the political, social, and business development of Indian tribes. Scholarships are not need-based but are awarded on merit and on the student's ability to most likely improve the lives of Indian people. Deadline dates are March 15 for summer school; April 15 for fall semester; and September 15 for spring semester. - MESBEC (Math, Engineering, Science, Business, Education and Computers) is a program for high potential Native Americans planning to study in these fields. Maximum award is $5,000 per year.
- NALE (Native American Leadership Education) is for high potential para-professional Native Americans who plan to complete their degrees and obtain credentials as teachers, counselors or administrators.
- Tribal Business Management Program is for students in business, finance, management, economics, banking, hotel management, and related fields who plan to work in economic development for tribes.
CONTINENTAL SOCIETY DAUGHTERS OF INDIAN WARS SCHOLARSHIP
A $500 award is available to certified tribal members enrolled in an undergraduate education or social services program; student must plan to work on a reservation. Deadline date is in June. DAKOTA INDIAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP (DIFS)
The DIFS was established to further educational advancement of aspiring American Indian students with priority given to those of Sioux heritage. This is a $500 per term scholarship for undergraduate or graduate students who have a minimum 2.00 GPA. Deadline dates are August 1 for fall and January 1 for spring term.
ETHEL AND EMERY FAST SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to qualified Native Americans enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a post-secondary educational institution. An applicant must be a Native American enrolled in a federally-recognized tribe; have successfully completed one year of post-secondary education at an accredited college or university; be currently enrolled in same as a full-time student in good standing; and demonstrate financial need. The deadline dates for applying are August 15 for fall semester and December 15 for spring semester. Applications can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office.
GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is intended to increase the number of African-Americans, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Americans, and Hispanic Americans enrolling in and completing undergraduate and graduate degree programs in disciplines where ethnic and racial groups are currently underrepresented. To qualify, a student must have a cumulative 3.3 GPA; must be accepted into an accredited college or university; have significant financial need; have demonstrated leadership ability through participation in community service, extra-curricular activities or other activities. Application packets may be obtained by visiting their Web site or by calling 1-877-690-GMSP (4677). Deadline date is early February.
HIGHER EDUCATION RESOURCE ORGANIZATION FOR STUDENTS (HEROS) SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is available to students enrolled full-time in a North Dakota institute of higher education who has earned a minimum 3.00 GPA or better and who is an enrolled member of a tribe. Up to seven $100 scholarships are available: one per North Dakota reservation; one for any other federally recognized tribe; one for incoming freshman who have just recently graduated from high school; and one for a graduate student. Deadline date to apply is July 31.
INDIAN FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Fellowship grants are awarded to students to pursue courses of study leading to undergraduate degrees in business or administration, natural resources, engineering, and related fields. INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (IHSSP)
The IHSSP is available to conduct three inter-related scholarship programs to train the health professional personnel necessary to staff IHS health programs and other health programs serving the Indian people. INTERNATIONAL ORDER OF THE KING'S DAUGHTERS AND SONS, INC.
This group provides a $500 grant to Native American students enrolled in a technical, vocational or undergraduate level course of study. MASSACHUSETTS INDIAN ASSOCIATION

NATIONAL SOCIETY DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
This group provides a one-time award of $500 to Native Americans based on financial need, academic achievement and ambition. Students must have a 2.75 GPA. Deadline date for applying is August 1 for fall term and December 1 for spring term. Applications are available at the Financial Aid Office or by writing to Mrs. Lyle A. NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATION GRANTS
Scholarships ($200 to $2,000) are available to students who meet the following criteria: preference to members of Presbyterian Church (membership not required); US citizen or permanent resident; enrolled full-time at an accredited institution in the United States; making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree; demonstrate financial need; photocopy of tribal identification card. Deadline date to apply is June 1. NATIVE AMERICAN FINANCE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND
This scholarship is for students who are majoring in Finance, Accounting, Business Management or Business Administration who have a minimum 2.8 grade point average. Deadline date to apply is May 1. NATIVE AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Up to $2,500 per year is awarded to Native American high school seniors who have at least 1/4 Indian blood. The deadline date is March 15. NATIVE VISION SCHOLARSHIPS
The guiding principle for Native Vision is to cultivate the core strengths, values and positive relationships for American Indian youth that will make them resilient to the prevailing risks and help them transition to healthy, productive and fulfilling adulthood. Native Vision hopes to foster school completion, self-esteem, cultural attachment and personal identity, and healthy lifestyles. Two $4,000 scholarships are available. Applications are accepted between March and May and are awarded in June. PICARD (TRUMAN D.) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Sponsored by the Intertribal Timber Council, scholarships shall be awarded to current year high school graduates and current undergraduate students seeking an education in natural resources. The scholarships are $1,200 for high school graduates and $1,800 for undergraduates. Application deadline is in March. PRESBYTERIAN NATIVE AMERCIAN SCHOLARSHIPS
These scholarships are for Alaska Natives and Native Americans pursuing full-time post-secondary education. Criteria: preference given to members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.); be high school graduates or GED recipients; be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.; demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least one semester of work at an accredited institution of higher education. Deadline: June 1. SPIRIT OF SOVEREIGNTY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is provided by the National Indian Gaming Association. One $500 scholarship shall be awarded in the fall term and in the spring term to a student who is chosen primarily on accomplishments and contributions within the Native American community while attending school. US DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE: NATURAL RESOURCE CONSERVATION SERVICE (NRCS) SCHOLARSHIP
The aim of the Tribal Scholars Program is to strengthen a partnership between NRCS and 1994 Land-Grant institutions; increase the number of students studying in agriculture and agency-related disciplines; and to offer employment opportunities. Tribal scholarships are awarded to U.S. citizens who are pursuing a degree in agriculture or related natural resource sciences at a 1994 tribal land-grant institution, The scholarship provides full tuition, fees, books, use of a personal computer and software while on scholarships, room and board each year for up to four years as well as employment and employee benefits. - American Indian/Alaska Native Employees Association for NRCS. Two scholarships will be awarded to an American Indian/Alaska Native student pursuing a degree in a natural resources field. The scholarship amount is $200. There are two categories: one for members of the AI/ANEA and one for any American Indian or Alaska Native student in the natural resources field. Applications are accepted between January 1 and April 1. The application criteria and form can be obtained on their Web site.
US DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Fellowships of $600 to $24,000 are available for American Indian or Native Alaskan undergraduate or graduate students studying education, psychology, guidance counseling, or a related field.
